                  Issam Houshan

Saturday May 31st, 2008
Wake Forest University
Benson Center Room 401 B
Winston Salem, NC 27106

 ENTERTAINER , SOLO ARTIST
On a June day a talent was born, it was Issam. Issam showed his love to music and particularly Tablah at an early age. His potential was discovered by few world renowned Tablah players whom Issam had a chance to learn from. While developing his own style in the musical field, he pursued an education earning a Masters Degree in Mathematics from the University Of Damascus. Rhythm and equations dominated his life. Issam acquired a vast well of knowledge about the middle eastern music and rhythms by associating with different music professionals in different regions in the Middle East. Issam established a new academic approach to the Tablah when he taught at the Music Institute In Damascus for nine years. Issam became very well known in the Middle East that gave him the honor to play for some of the most famous star singers and belly dancers. To name few he played for Molhem Barakat , Issam Rajji, Samir Yazbeck, Mohammad Gammal, Rageb Alama, Tony Hanna, Azzar Habib and Joseph Azzar. In 1983 Issam represented the Dancing Folklore Culture Group in London with Asala Nasri; followed similarly in 1985 and 1987 in Moscow and Algeria respectively.
Because of Issam's strong academic knowledge and his superior talent, he was chosen to write music for multiple musical shows, TV commercials and theater plays. He was distinguished for writing the music for two popular theater plays Kalegola and The Story of Jason and Meedia.
Issam is an impressive player on stage as well as in recording studios. He has a unique characteristic, he plays with the same quality and energy level at the beginning of the concert as at the end. In the year 2000, Issam was chosen to play with supper star Sting in the Western tour of the US. Sting was impressed with Issam's ability to record in the studio first take.

Workshop with SADIE

August 9th and 10th, 2008

Wake Forest University

SADIE is an International performing artist, instructor and choreographer.  She is recognized world wide as one of today's most exciting and talented Belly Dancers.  Based in Denver, CO, Sadie is one of the city's entertainment hi-lights and has performed over 300 shows in one year.  She has received accolades such as "The Critic's Choice" by the Denver Post and Westswords "Denver's Best 2006" for shows and dance classes. Sadie offers weekly ongoing dance classes at Cherry Creek Dance and performances and master workshops across the country as well as Internationally. She has been hired to dance at parties for Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Kevin Fitzgerald of Animal Planet's "Emergency Vets" and was filmed for a James Bond commercial produced by Starz/Encore.

Sadie draws upon an innate understanding of movement instilled partly by her 14 years of training in gymnastics and swimming as a child and teenager. Her dance and music education spans over a decade. Her love for movement, music and culture has prompted her to explore and study various forms of world dance such as,Brazilian Samba, Salsa, Hip-Hop, Tahitian, Hula and Flamenco with a dedication to foundation training in Ballet and Jazz. This background has given Sadie a style that is uniquely hers, as well as a deep understanding of movement that comes to life not only in her inspiring performances but also in her gift to teach.

Her ability to combine unbelievable strength, flexibility and isolation with fluid control and grace has amazed fans and audiences worldwide.  Her talent in the art form has taken her to countless venues throughout the US and abroad including Turkey and Mexico. Sadie can also be seen as the featured rising star on Vol.II of BD-TV, on IAMED's "Belly Dance Rocks", "Belly Dance Live", "Belly Dance-O-Rama" and "That's Hot" a performance compilation of her and her dance partner Kaya, and many other Belly Dance performance DVD's produced by Hollywood Music Center.  Sadie was a featured performer on the recent video release by the Emmy award nominated Michael Drumm's "Temptation of Belly Dance".
