Classes

Basic Fundamentals with Gypsy:

Students will learn basic foundation steps and technique, as well as steps, movement patterns, and exercise practice drills designed to develop core strength and flexibility.  The lesson material and instruction provided each week is progressive. Therefore in order to obtain the best outcome and optimal experience, it is important that students attend every lesson each week.  Notes and music for practicing will be provided, as well as access to links for YouTube videos of lesson material.

Coursework Outline:  

Lesson #1:  Posture, Arms and Hand positions/patterns (i.e., Temple Arms, Tee Shirt on/off, Swells, Prayer position, Magic Arms, Hindu Arms); Muscle Group Isolation Exercises (pelvic locks- up/down); Hip Circles; Staccato Hip Movements (single hip hits)

Lesson #2: Posture Review; Arms (Snake arms to front, Snake arms to sides, Wrist Rotations); Muscle Group Isolation Exercises (chest locks- up/down); Rib Cage Circles; Staccato Hip Movements (double hip hits); Staccato Shoulder Movements (shoulder twists/thrusts – single & double)

Lesson #3: Arms (Hourglass arms; Arabesque arms); Muscle Group Isolation Exercises (rib cage slides, rib cage circles); Figure 8’s (forward & backward direction); Staccato Hip Movements/Steps (Basic Egyptian, 3-pivot Basic Egyptian)

Lesson #4: Arms (review all positions and drill); Muscle Group Isolation Exercises (review and drill pelvic locks, chest locks, & rib cage slides/circles); Figure 8’s (upward & downward direction); Staccato Hip Movement/Steps (hip drops, step-touch w/crescent, step-together-step, & step touch combination)

Lesson #5: Arms (review and drill); Muscle Group Isolation Exercises (review and drill); Camel Walk; Hips (review and drill circles, figure 8’s and variations); Staccato Movements/Steps (three-step turn, paddle turn & camel walk combination)

Lesson #6: Review and practice/drill each segment of material learned in the six-week course (i.e., Arm Patterns, Muscle Group Isolation Exercises, Circles/Figure 8’s, Basic Step/Movements, Hip & Shoulder Twists building to shimmies)

Cost:  $60 (six-week session) – or – $15/lesson

Schedule:  Summer break – Classes to resume in September – (new location to be determined)

 

Belly Dance with Bold Baladi(pure beginner classes are not available at the current time):

 Welcome to your sacred dance space, where you are free to move your body and relax your mind.   Belly Dance with Bold Baladi combines aspects of meditation, yoga, and high-intensity cardio to enhance technique and improvisation for belly dancers at all levels. Classes are adapted to each students’ unique abilities and dance experience. Every class includes an opening meditation, warm-up, foundational belly dance technique, drills, combinations, shimmies, and a meditative cool-down to close class. 

A note from Jess: Oftentimes it’s a calling, a romantic yearning, that brings one into the world of belly dance. In this class, every student will have the freedom and support to move at their own pace, as every journey is personal to the individual student. This class is dedicated to having an open community for dancers of all levels to discover and reconnect with their divine feminine power, focusing on beginner technique and building the foundations of belly dance into your mind, body and spirit. 

Drop-in: $15 – or –  Class Card: 3 minimum at $10 per class*…(no expiration)

Schedule:  Saturdays 10am -11am

Private lessons with Jess/Bold Baladi:

  • $60  – 1 private session 
  • $100 – 2 private sessions ($20 Discount)
  • $150  – 3 private sessions ($30 Discount)

 

Troupe Class with Gypsy – Wednesdays (7-8 pm):

Acceptance into the Troupe class is by invitation and/or audition. Students must have successfully completed at least one (entire) six-week session with Gypsy and/or Jessica and be capable of demonstrating a good understanding and command of basic belly dance movements and foundation steps…and/or have had previous training and prior performance experience.

Cost:  $60 (six-week session) – or- $15/lesson

Schedule: Summer break – Classes to resume in September – (new location to be determined)

 

 

Classes begin promptly, so please be on time.  The first 15 minutes will be spent stretching and warming up.  For class you will need comfortable exercise clothing such as yoga pants and crop/bra top or even shorts and tee shirts are fine, and a hip scarf or sash with fringe, tassels or better yet, coins (to accentuate your hip movements).  Bare feet are recommended, although soft ballet slippers are fine.

  • Classes cancelled due to inclement weather will be re-scheduled. Contact Paula for date and time.  Due to space restriction please do not bring small children to class.
